Defining Truthiness

Last week the American Dialect Society named "Truthiness" the word of the year. This word was invented by Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central last October and understandably, he was livid when Associated Press did not credit him with the invention. The closest reference for a word close to Truthiness is Truthy but it does not really capture the essence of Colbert's Truthiness.

According to Colbert, Truthiness means truth that is not held back by facts. You don't look up the meaning of Truthiness in a book, you look it up in your gut. People have always found it difficult to describe the truth propagated by anchors on Fox News like Bill O'Reilly, Shawn Hannity etc. but since the invention of Truthiness by Colbert, the job has become very easy. And to take away the credit of an invention of this magnitude definitely deserves outrage.

I believe that Colbert invented Truthiness because I looked up in my gut and it told me that Colbert was speaking the truth!!
